I started up my gas furnace for the first time this year plus I instantly knew something was terribly wrong: the whole condo smelled of smoke. When I could genuinely see the smoke in the air, I turned off the gas furnace plus contacted the Heating plus A/C professional. The professional looked over my gas furnace plus instantly found the culprit; there was a bird nest in the exhaust pipe. The professional told myself and others that this could have been a deadly mistake. She urged myself and others to have smoke detectors installed instantly plus to have my gas furnace diagnosed at least once per year… I felt a bit chided however knew she was absolutely right. Had I gone to sleep I might not have noticed the smoke plus I could have actually died. I had the professional look over my gas furnace altogether. She wasn’t able to find any more complications. She even put some screening around the exhaust pipe in an attempt to keep future birds from building nests inside my vents. When she was gone, I went out plus got a few smoke detectors. I also scheduled regular repair for my gas furnace. I’ve constantly just figured I would repair things when they had to be fixed. I never thought of what could actually happen if normal repair is not performed on a heater device. I don’t love smoke detectors because they are basically always going off for no reason. But, the grandchildren are going to come out to visit next week. What if this had happened when they were here? It is absolutely sobering to think about. I honestly think, it is worth having a few false smoke alarms to know we will all be safe.
