Working in a chain restaurant, various things can go wrong each and every day – and that may surprise you. I walked into work one fateful morning and the temperature inside the restaurant was similar, minus wind chill, to outside the restaurant. I quickly ran out back to my manager to ask what on Earth was happening. He was often cheap with the heat in the restaurant, so I wasn’t sure if that was what was happening was because of him or something else. We were due to open all too soon and he told me he didn’t think we had heat coming out of one unit in particular. The restaurant was built upon over many years and rather than tax the heating system even more, they chose to install a new one for each new addition; so we had three thermostats attached to different zones and let me tell you that was just about a nightmare. The HVAC service guys would not be showing up right away, so we put two of the working units on full tilt, hoping it would make up for the malfunctioning third unit – it didn’t. The technician hours later just to confirm for us that we had no heat coming from that blasted one unit. Our patrons froze all day long until we closed many hours later! It was an absolutely miserable day, especially with customers getting hot and bothered about how cold it was all day, when I was freezing right there with them!
