I live in an section of the nation that is predominantly Amish. Most of the families don’t have permission to use electricity, or drive cars. It is nothing significant to be awakened with the sound of a horse drawn buggy travelling down the road. The other night, it was actually snowing. My spouse as well as I were coming from our daughter’s as well as it was freezing as well as dark outside. I couldn’t truly believe it when we witnessed that they had headlights. Many years ago, they made it a law that they needed to have slow moving car signs on their buggies, as well as they had to have a 4 way system, but this buggy was using headlights. I saw the children, which we actually knew. They waved to us as we travelled along. They were really bundled up like how we bundled our own kids for playing in the snow. I was curious about what they did for heating systems in the buggies. It had to be a freezing ride, because it was freezing as well as windy outside. My spouse was speaking to the father, as well as he said they actually used foot warmers in the buggy for warmth. They were basically gas heaters, as well as they ran on propane, very similar to camping stoves. He said that most of the modern families these days now used generators, as well as they were really allowed to have oil furnaces, but they still had a wood burning furnace in their residence. When he got home that afternoon, he sat in the car, as well as I asked if he was doing okay. He simply said that he was enjoying the ability to sit in the heat, knowing that when he came inside, he would have the heat of our oil furnace, as well as we were even allowed to use air conditioning in the summertime. He was certainly thankful that he wasn’t born Amish.
